Kitchen designs are unique to the homeowner and their tastes. You cook the way you cook, and your cooking space should reflect you methods and style. Think about every aspect of that space in your home before you commit to a design, work with a professional to get the cabinets, appliances, and amenities that will make your new kitchen feel as if it’s all yours.
The first thing you have to deal with is the layout of the space. It should flow with the way that you want to use it. People who entertain need lots of space to roam around. People with kids need appliances that are out of reach, and a caterer needs extra equipment. You may want a pass-thru if you want to serve directly from the stove and oven. Consulting an architect is wise if you want specifics on the design details.
Caterers and small business owners must have more equipment than comes in a standard kitchen. A cottage bakery owner will need more than one oven, and they might need more than one stove. An extra sink, extra counterspace, and extra space to work will make you a more productive business owner and chef.
The appliances can be the focal point of the room. A refrigerator with french doors, an extra freezer, microwave, and trash compactor can all be placed in strategic points throughout the room. As you place items in the room, you can make the room as user-friendly as possible.
The motif in the room should mean a lot to you. Theme based on where you had your honeymoon, favorite vacation, or even on your mother’s kitchen. Choose something that speaks to you, feels inviting, and makes you feel like you need to cook. The space with the right theme will become a great place to hang out.
The cabinetry should give you enough to store everything you have and everything you will acquire as you grow older. Use a pot rack over the stove, install a bar with a rack for your glasses, and install a wine rack if you need some wine. Find space for the things that make the room user friendly. You need for any of your guests to be able to come in and get whatever they need.
Your windows should be placed so that enough natural light comes into the space to make the space feel open. You should be able to open a window in case you have a little accident. You may also want some french doors going out to your deck in case you ever want to grill.
In the end, the space should feel like home. You want it to make your guests feel at ease, have space for everything, and hold all the appliances you need. Run a business out of your home, entertain your friends and family, and enjoy your new kitchen.
